What type of stain or finish is used on your saunas?Updated 15 days ago

All of our sauna rooms, regardless of colour, receive a protective multi-layer finish. The exact finish varies depending on whether the sauna is designed for indoor or outdoor use.

Indoor Saunas (Natural & White)

  • Made from non-toxic Hemlock timber.
  • No internal chemical processing is applied to the wood.
  • Finished with a 3-layer coating system consisting of:
    • 2 coats of primer
    • 1 coat of varnish (White sauna will use white varnish)

Outdoor Saunas (Natural & Thermowood)

  • No internal chemical processing is applied to the wood.
  • Finished with a 4-layer coating system consisting of:
    • 2 coats of primer
    • 2 coats of eco-friendly wood wax oil
  • The wood wax oil is odourless, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly, helping to protect the timber from outdoor weather conditions.

Outdoor Saunas (White)

  • No internal chemical processing is applied to the wood.
  • Finished with a 4-layer coating system consisting of:
    • 2 coats of primer
    • 2 coats of eco-friendly White wood wax oil
  • The wood wax oil is odourless, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly, helping to protect the timber from outdoor weather conditions.

These finishing processes are applied consistently across all sauna colour options.

Please note: Natural timber may have a mild wood scent when new, which is normal and not the result of chemical treatments.
