Are there any chemicals used in manufacturing the saunas?Updated 9 hours ago

Our indoor saunas are constructed from non-toxic Hemlock wood and are not heat-treated or chemically treated. The timber itself contains no added formaldehyde and is manufactured using low-VOC materials.

Any trace amounts of formaldehyde are limited to the adhesives used during the manufacturing process to bond certain engineered timber components. These materials comply with applicable manufacturing standards and are not applied as treatments to the sauna timber itself.

For our outdoor saunas (darker coloured models), we use Thermowood for the exterior timber construction. Thermowood is produced using a heat-treatment process that enhances the timber's durability, dimensional stability, and resistance to outdoor conditions without the use of chemical preservatives. The wooden door handle is also heat-treated. An eco-friendly wood wax oil finish is then applied to the exterior surfaces. This finish is odourless, non-toxic, and helps protect the timber from weather exposure. No chemical treatments are applied to the interior timber surfaces.

Key Features:

  • Non-toxic Hemlock timber (indoor models)
  • No formaldehyde added to the timber
  • Low-VOC materials used in construction
  • Any formaldehyde content is limited to adhesives used in bonded components
  • No chemical treatments on interior timber surfaces
  • Outdoor models use heat-treated Thermowood construction
  • Heat-treated wooden door handle
  • Thermowood heat treatment uses heat and steam rather than chemical preservatives
  • Eco-friendly, odourless, non-toxic wood wax oil finish on exterior surfaces only

Please note: Natural timber may have a mild wood scent when new, which is normal and not the result of chemical treatments or added chemicals.
