Which treadmill is suitable for me?Updated a year ago
Treadmills are an amazing way to get your cardio workout in the comfort of your own home.
Whether your goal is to increase your fitness level, lose weight, train for an event or simply get into running, Lifespan Fitness has a treadmill for you.
The treadmill that is best suited to your particular needs will depend on a couple of factors:
- Will you be walking, jogging or running on it?
- Do you want to incorporate incline into the workout?
- How often and for how long will you be using the treadmill?
- Will it have multiple users?
- How much space do you have for the treadmill?
The key specifications to consider when comparing treadmills are:
- Motor Size
The power generated for the treadmill can be determined by Horse Power (HP) or Continuous Horse Power (CHP). The difference between these measurements is that CHP shows the power level a treadmill is capable of holding for a continuous period, while the maximum horsepower is simply its peak limit. When buying a treadmill it is better to have a larger CHP rating.
A larger motor size can run at faster speeds and also have a longer life time. Larger motors are required for running or if it will be used for longer periods, generally 3CHP for running. You will also need to take into consideration the number of users that will use it in a day. User weight will also contribute to the size of motor you need.
- Frame Quality
Frame quality is important to ensure the treadmill can hold your weight and for the exercise you will be doing. A thicker and stronger frame will prevent less shaking while in use and be more durable for the long term.
- Running Belt Size
The size of the running deck will determine how much space you have to move around as you run. More room for movement means a more comfortable workout experience. The belt quality and thickness will also make a difference for your running experience as it can provide a bit more support and grip.
- Shock Control
The impact on your joints is absorbed by the shock control under the belt. Advanced shock control is recommended for higher speeds and prolonged workouts as it cushions the impact of each step.
- Speed and Incline
Treadmills vary in speed and incline levels. If you require just for purely walking then you would not need a high speed treadmill. For incline, some treadmill may have no incline whilst others could be a manual or automatic incline.
